$1000 Challenge

HeroicStories is distributed to both online subscribers and to newspapers for free -- we think the stories are valuable and need to be read, and the best way to do that is to make them freely available. The funds needed to do support that free distribution were meant to come from an ad after each story. While we wait for the "dotcom economy" to recover (which will allow us to actually sell that ad space!), our readers have been generously sponsoring each issue via the Readers' Sponsorship Fund.

That fund was running low -- we were down to just a few weeks of cash on hand to keep HeroicStories going. That's when an anonymous reader in Washington state offered to contribute $1000 to the fund if other readers will match that amount. That would be enough to keep us running well into next year! The results of that Challenge were beyond our wildest imaginations:

That's Right -- Four Times the Goal in Two Weeks!
Your contributions in support of these terrific real-life stories have been astounding! The anonymous donor was blown away by your generosity by the end of the first week -- and said he would continue to match contributions for another week! When we announced that, the second week's contributions outstripped the first week's! The total by the challenge deadline was $4091 -- every dollar af which was matched by our generous anonymous challenger. That has, of course, put us in great shape to continue to publish well into the future.
